English teachers at Scott High teach writing skills in the classroom every day. The following instructions detail how we will collect and evaluate evidence of ourselves as writing instructors, our students as growing communicators, and the strength of our writing program as a whole.
Scott High School English Department Writing Program Requirements
Teach
Teach and assign the appropriate process and on-demand writing pieces according to our Kenton County Writing Continuum or the Read 180 Writing Continuum.
Collect
For each process piece you collect, ensure that you collect the following from each student.
- student rough draft with instructor comments
- student final draft
- completed standards-based rubric (based on final draft)
- on-demand prompt
- student initial draft with instructor comments
- completed standards-based rubric
Store
Keep the following in your storage until our writing program review (usually in the spring). If you struggle to find storage in your room, feel free to bring the folders to me!
- manila folder labeled with your name, the trimester, the course title, the class period, and the assignment title
- student roster
- all student evidence, organized by student, alphabetized by student last name
Review
In the spring, we will use the evidence you submitted as part of our evaluation of our writing program review for our department.
