"My Mother Pieced Quilts"
We finally started our bell-ringer procedure today! Every day, when you come in to class, you will get out your EOC Passage Analysis. (Students printing for themselves will need to cut the EOC Passage Analysis so that you can turn in one week at a time!) I passed out "Straw Into Gold" and we answered the following questions for Monday and Tuesday on your EOC Passage Analysis.
1. What do the author's observations in the final paragraph suggest?
a. Sometimes good luck is better than hard work.
b. It is possible to complete difficult tasks even if the results are not perfect.
c. Ordinary challenges can be overwhelming without the help of others.
d. Sometimes failure is a powerful motivator.
2. Which statement best explains the function of the third paragraph?
a. It illustrates why the author does not know how to make tortillas.
b. It shows how the author's parents encouraged her to try new things.
c. It supports the author's claim about the benefits of knowing how to cook.
d. It demonstrates how experience gives the author the confidence she needs.
It is SO IMPORTANT that you make notes every day on your EOC Passage Analysis to justify or explain your choice. I want you to get in the habit of analyzing your own thought process in order to improve and sharpen you thoughts about reading.
For our final class activities, we completed page 6 in our SpringBoard text and then read "My Mother Pieced Quilts" (pages 7-8) while marking the text with the following.
Homework: Complete #1 on page 9 of your SpringBoard text.
