Unpacking SpringBoard Unit 3, Embedded Assessment 1
Essential Question: How do we synthesize multiple sources of information into a cohesive argument?
Learning Target: I can make predictions based on text features.
Bell-Work
Today, students started class by getting a brand new EOC Passage Analysis (so print one if you were not here). We went over questions based on The Names: A Memoir (print it if you need a new copy) from Monday and from last week, and then we answered two new questions for Monday and Tuesday of this week, all based on The Names: A Memoir. The questions are below.
Monday: What do lines 46-47 imply about a journey like the author's?
Tuesday: Which statement best matches the tone and mood of line 39?
At this point, I gave students a brand new passage: Seeing (print it if you weren't here). Students had time toMark Up The Text (feel free to print these notes) and then got a new question.
Wednesday: Which word is closest in meaning to the underlines work in line 32?
Before we completely finished bell work, students passed in LAST WEEK's EOC Passage Analysis with their thoroughly annotated copies of The Names: A Memoir stapled to the back. If you were not here, you must turn in your EOC Passage Analysis from last week with The Names: A Memoir stapled to the back (annotated) and a completely filled out Late or Make-Up Work Cover Sheet stapled to the front.
Class Activities
If you missed class today, it is your responsibility to complete a SpringBoard Unpacking Handout based on SpringBoard Unit 3, Embedded Assessment 1. Print it out and turn it in stapled to the back of a printed/completed Late or Make-Up Work Cover Sheet. You will have a copy of Chinua Achebe's Things Fall Apart waiting for you upon your return.
Homework
Use an index card to create a bookmark with names/pronunciations from SpringBoard Page 150. You need this in your copy of Things Fall Apart by tomorrow.
